Chidera Ejuke has expressed confidence in Kelechi Iheanacho’s ability to bounce back and make an impact at Sevilla following a difficult spell in La Liga. The Nigerian forward joined the Spanish club on a free transfer last summer but struggled to make an impact, failing to score in nine league appearances.
In January, Iheanacho was loaned to Sky Bet Championship side Middlesbrough in search of regular playing time and a chance to regain his form. The 28-year-old is expected to return to Sevilla at the end of the season, where he hopes to revive his career.
Ejuke, who has played alongside Iheanacho for the Nigerian national team, believes the former Leicester City striker still possesses the quality to succeed in one of Europe’s top leagues. He emphasized that adapting to a new league can be challenging, but Iheanacho’s talent and experience will eventually shine through.
“You can’t take any credit away from Iheanacho, to be honest,” Ejuke told La Colina de Nervion. “We all know who he is and what he’s achieved in the Premier League with Leicester. He’s a top-level player with incredible qualities.”
Ejuke acknowledged that Iheanacho’s struggles at Sevilla were partly due to the adaptation process, which can be difficult for any player transitioning to a new league and environment. However, he remains optimistic that his compatriot will find his rhythm once he returns to Spain.
“The adaptation probably hasn’t been easy for him, but you can’t take anything away from his quality,” Ejuke added. “He’s only out for a while, and hopefully, he’ll come back in the next phase of the new season and pick up where he left off.”
Sevilla, who have struggled for consistency this season, could benefit from Iheanacho’s goal-scoring prowess if he manages to regain his confidence. His experience in the Premier League, where he played a key role in Leicester’s FA Cup triumph in 2021, could be valuable for the Spanish side.
With Ejuke’s support and the right guidance from Sevilla’s coaching staff, Iheanacho will be hoping to prove his critics wrong and establish himself as a key player for the former UEFA Europa League champions next season.
