Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i has alleged that Jafaru Sani, a former commissioner in his administration, was abducted in Kaduna by individuals he described as a “kidnapping gang” linked to Governor Uba Sani.

The accusation was made in a statement posted on El-Rufai’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.

According to El-Rufai, Jafaru Sani was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon by individuals claiming to be police officers.

He further alleged that Sani was subsequently remanded in prison by a magistrate despite the absence of a First Information Report (FIR) or formal charges from the Kaduna State Ministry of Justice.

El-Rufai also claimed that Jafaru Sani is now facing money laundering charges, which he described as a federal offense beyond the jurisdiction of the Kaduna State Judiciary and Police.

He suggested that the arrest was politically motivated, linking it to Sani’s resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

El-Rufai further alleged that Sani had been proposed as Kaduna State’s ministerial nominee in August 2023, implying a connection between his political shift and his current legal troubles.

Drawing parallels with a previous case, El-Rufai referenced the alleged abduction of Bashir Saidu, another former official in his administration, on December 31, 2024. He stated that Saidu was held for 50 days before being released on bail.

The former governor criticized what he termed the “ignominious role” of certain magistrates and high court judges in Kaduna, alleging that they were compromised.

He warned that those responsible for such actions would eventually be held accountable.

At the time of reporting, the Kaduna State Government and law enforcement agencies had not issued an official response to the allegations.

This development adds to the growing political tensions in Kaduna State, where former allies have become rivals following the transition of power.
