Gooners have been exasperated by Oliver’s controversial decisions against their team.
English football’s refereeing chief Howard Webb has admitted that Arsenal defender Myles Lewis-Skelly was wrongly sent off in last month’s Premier League match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Wolves defender Matt Doherty, but the decision was later overturned on appeal.

Arsenal supporters were left stunned on Saturday when Myles Lewis-Skelly was controversially sent off during the first half of their 1-0 victory over Wolves. The Premier League has since provided an explanation for the decision.

The incident occurred in the 43rd minute of the match, with the game still goalless. Although Lewis-Skelly’s sending-off left Arsenal with 10 men for the remainder of the game, a Riccardo Calafiori strike settled a 1-0 success at Molineaux.
The decision to overturn Lewis-Skelly’s red card was welcomed by Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who had criticised the decision at the time.

What Webb said about Lewis-Skelly’s sending-off
The PGMOL chief has now explained that the challenge did not meet the threshold for serious foul play, as it lacked excessive force or brutality.
He believes that a yellow card would have been a more appropriate punishment.

“From the outset, I want to say we would prefer a yellow card in this situation,” Webb said on the Match Officials Mic’d Up programme. “Clearly, the referee felt that the actions of Myles Lewis-Skelly were serious foul play. We know that for serious foul play, we need excessive force or brutality.
“And what we see here is that high contact glancing and coming off the leg quite quickly.
“So for that reason, everybody pretty much in the game has formed the same conclusion that we now form, that this is falling short of serious foul play because of that glancing contact because the studs don’t really go right into the leg and they glance it before coming down onto the foot.”

Arteta’s side return to Premier League action against West Ham on Saturday.
The Gunners could be 10 points adrift of Liverpool when they play with the Reds in action at Aston Villa in midweek.
