Two Jean-Philippe Mateta goals in the game’s final 20 minutes inflicted another home defeat on Amorim’s side following January 19’s 3-1 defeat by Brighton & Hove Albion.

Sunday’s loss was the fourth Premier League disappointment at Old Trafford in their past five games and fifth overall under the Portuguese manager.

With that defeat, Amorim became the first Manchester United boss to lose five matches at Old Trafford in record time (seven games), worse than David Moyes (14), Erik ten Hag (28), Louis van Gaal (30), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (31) and Sir Alex Ferguson (88), while Jose Mourinho and Ralf Rangnick never fell to five defeats at Old Trafford, even if Rangnick was in charge on an interim basis.

Amorim’s two other Premier League losses have come on the road at Arsenal (2-0) and Wolves (2-0).

What next for Manchester United?

Man Utd are back in Premier League action against Tottenham Hotspur on February 16, nine days after hosting Leicester City in the FA Cup fourth round.
