Nigeria’s national women’s team, the Super Falcons, are still the best in Africa ahead of rivals South Africa and Ghana following the recent FIFA rankings.

Nigeria’s Super Falcons have maintained their position as the top women’s football team in Africa, according to the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

The Super Falcons remain the 36th best team globally, holding on strongly to their status as the continent’s leading women’s national team.

South Africa, who dropped one place, rank second in Africa at 54th globally, followed by Ghana at 65th.

Morocco has moved up to third in Africa, now ranked 60th, while Zambia rounds out the top five after dropping two spots to 64th.

The rankings also highlighted significant movements elsewhere. Kenya was the biggest climber, jumping seven spots to 142nd, while Tunisia suffered the largest drop, falling 11 places to 89th.

At the global level, the United States retain its position as the world’s best women’s team, with Spain, the current world champions, in second place.

Germany, England, and Japan complete the top five, with Japan being the only team to change positions, moving up three spots.

The Super Falcons’ consistent performance ensures they remain the benchmark for women’s football in Africa, ahead of their regional and continental rivals.

The next FIFA women’s rankings will be released on June 12, 2025.
