Gasperini set to quit Atalanta after fallout with Lookman

Atalanta manager, Gian Pero Gasperini, has informed the Serie A club that he will not extend his contract when it expires in June 2026, according to Soccernet.

Gasperini has been in the news following his post-match remarks as they were eliminated from the Champions League by Club Brugge.

Having lost the first leg 2-1 in Belgium, La Dea conceded three first-half goals in front of their fans, to effectively settle the contest.

Ademola Lookman pulled one back and then missed a penalty for Atalanta.

After the match, Gasperini described Lookman as the worst penalty taker he has ever seen.

Following the coach’s harsh words, Lookman took to social media to insist the designated taker entrusted him with the chance.

It is understood that the club has had multiple meetings to reconcile Gasperini and Lookman, but the situation appears to be beyond reconciliation.

Gasperini, who has been with the club since 2016, is now set to depart either this summer via a mutual termination or when his current deal expires next summer.

Lookman is also almost certain to move on at the end of this season.
