Dessers, who netted a brilliant hat-trick, went beyond football to leave a lasting impression on his opponent’s players and staff.
Dessers’ kindness impresses opponents
Despite Fraserburgh’s heavy defeat at Ibrox, the underdogs delivered a spirited display, holding Rangers to just a 1-0 lead at halftime.
While his three goals in the 5-0 rout were pivotal in the match, Dessers also made headlines for what happened off the pitch.
After the game, Dessers reportedly visited the Fraserburgh dressing room to personally congratulate the players on their performance and professionalism.
He went a step further by arranging shirt swaps for Fraserburgh players, ensuring they could take home mementos from the Rangers first-team squad.
Fraserburgh club secretary Finlay Noble shared the story through Scottish broadcaster Tam Cowan, calling it a “brilliant day” for the club, made even more special by Dessers’ kindness.
A day to remember for Fraserburgh as Dessers gifts players
Noble described Dessers as a “genuinely decent lad,” after his gesture towards the travelling team during what was a historic occasion for Fraserburgh that saw fans travelling in droves to Ibrox to support their team.
Reflecting on the day, Noble said in a text message to Cowan, “Cyriel Dessers spoke to our players in the dressing room after the match and told them they should be proud of their performance and how they conducted themselves.
“He then arranged to get all of our players the shirts they wanted to swap with the Rangers players. We were treated exceptionally well by everyone at Rangers to be fair.”
Despite his recent form that has seen him score four goals in two games, including a smashing effort against Manchester United in the Europa League, Dessers’ future at Rangers remains up in the air as the January windows nears its end.
