‘Happy again’ – Pep Guardiola delighted with Man City star’s revival

Phil Foden

A Man City player’s recent performances have thrilled Pep Guardiola.

Pep Guardiola has praised Phil Foden’s recent resurgence, expressing his satisfaction with the attacking midfielder’s return to goal-scoring form.

Foden, who endured a slow start to the season, has scored five goals in his last three games, including doubles against Brentford and Sunday’s 6-0 defeat of Ipswich Town.

What Guardiola said

Guardiola highlighted Foden’s natural goal-scoring instincts and ability to find the back of the net before stating that the Englishman has the potential to be a one-club player and enjoy a long and successful career at Manchester City.

The City manager also acknowledged that the England international had faced some challenges earlier in the season but is pleased to see him happy and enjoying his football again.

“The biggest quality for Phil is around the box, having the goal in his blood, in his bones, in his mind,” said Guardiola. “It is not easy to find this (in a player), that is why we look to put the ball into central positions because he has that specific quality.

“There is no reason why he cannot be a one-club man and finish his career here and play many, many years. He is a City fan and you already look at the amount of goals and assists he has, and the work ethic (he brings).

“We spoke many times the last month, and he was a completely different boy to how he arrived at the beginning of the season. He had a few problems, but they are human beings and sometimes when you have a setback and that is normal.

“But we are really pleased that he is happy again and enjoying playing, and that is really good for all of us.”

Foden’s return to form is a welcome boost for Manchester City as they look to compete for trophies on multiple fronts in the Champions League and FA Cup, with Premier League contention unlikely this term.

What next for Man City?

Guardiola’s men travel to Paris Saint-Germain for Champions League action on January 22 before returning to top-flight competition against Chelsea three days later.
