Harry Maguire responds to Ruben Amorim’s ‘worst Man Utd team in history’ remark

Marcus Rashford was told to embrace new challenge at Manchester United by Amorim.

The Manchester United captain has addressed Ruben Amorim’s recent claim labeling the current United squad as the worst in the club’s history.

Speaking alongside the Portuguese coach in a press conference ahead of United’s Europa League clash with Rangers, Maguire admitted his team must take responsibility for their recent shortcomings.

Amorim’s stinging remark came in the wake of United’s 3-1 Premier League defeat to Brighton on Sunday, a result that has fueled criticism of the team.

While addressing the topic, Maguire struck a tone of accountability and determination.

“I think as players, we were frustrated and disappointed, coming on the back of a good away performance [at Arsenal] and beating Southampton. We have to look at ourselves and take responsibility,” said the centre-back.

“We were going into the game confident; we had the belief we could beat Brighton, but we didn’t perform on the day. I go home and think about how I can help the team get back to where we want to, and that’s challenging given where we are in the league.”

United will take on Rangers in the Europa League, a competition that has been a bright spot in an otherwise inconsistent season for the Red Devils.

They remain unbeaten in the competition, winning three of their six matches, currently seventh in the standings.

Victory on Thursday would significantly bolster their chances of advancing to the last 16, keeping alive the hopes of getting their hands on the trophy.
