The Nigerian government has called for a thorough and transparent investigation into the death of Abubakar Lawal, a Nigerian footballer who played for Vipers Sports Club in Uganda.
Lawal’s body was found on Monday morning after reportedly falling from the third floor of Voicemall Shopping Arcade in Uganda.

According to preliminary reports, Lawal had arrived at the shopping mall to meet his friend, Omary Naima, a Tanzanian national. Naima claimed that she had left Lawal in the room preparing tea while she went to a game center within the mall. Shortly after, Lawal reportedly fell from the balcony and was pronounced dead at Entebbe Referral Hospital.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), expressed her condolences and demanded a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding Lawal’s death.
