Former Cristiano Ronaldo debate Marcelo provided a surprising answer when asked to name the best player of all time.

Real Madrid legend Marcelo refused to pick a side in the GOAT debate, instead urging fans to enjoy both players when asked to name the best footballer in history. 

Marcelo was teammates with Cristiano Ronaldo at Real Madrid from 2009 until the Portuguese left the club in 2018. The pair had an excellent relationship, combining on the left flank for Los Blancos. Still, Marcelo did not pick Ronaldo over Messi, an adversary, in the GOAT debate.

What Marcelo said

“Cristiano thinks he’s better,” Marcelo revealed. “There was a time when it was messed up because one scored two, so the other had to score three… We saw this live and we enjoyed it very much. Many people want to compare but forgot to enjoy this.”

Meanwhile, Messi is ahead in the debate for many following his World Cup triumph. However, Ronaldo could settle the score or even win back the narrative should he hit his target of 1000 official goals; he is currently on 925 goals. Messi, according to MVR, is in 852.
