Super Eagles star Victor Osimhen has suffered injury ahead of 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers
Nigeria’s top striker, Victor Osimhen, has suffered an injury that could rule him out of the Super Eagles’ upcoming qualifying matches for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 26-year-old was substituted in the 89th minute of Galatasaray’s goalless draw with Fenerbahce on Monday night, with the team’s doctor, Yener Ince, confirming that the substitution was due to an injury.
“We will see; it will be clear tomorrow,” Dr. Ince said, providing little insight into the extent of Osimhen’s injury.
Osimhen’s injury will be a big blow to Nigeria’s World Cup qualifying hopes, as he is the country’s joint second-highest goalscorer with 23 goals in 39 games. Only Rashidi Yekini has scored more for Nigeria, with 37 goals in 62 matches.
The Super Eagles will be led by new head coach Eric Chelle, who will face a tough test in navigating the team through the qualifying matches without their star striker.
