Aston Villa boss Unai Emery addressed the rejected bid from Arsenal for their star striker.

The failed move 

As Pulse Sports reported, Arsenal submitted a sizable bid to the Villans for the service of Watkins; however, their approach was rebuffed due to multiple factors. 

The Birmingham-based side are said to be angry over Arsenal’s timing, as the approach came late into the transfer window, making it complicated to replace the England international. 

Also, the bid came in hours before Villa’s UCL clash against Celtic, and the club’s leadership feared it could destabilise the striker ahead of the all-important encounter.

What Emery said 

While the transfer window is open until tomorrow night, Villa have blocked the possibility of Watkins this winter, especially after selling his understudy, Jhon Duran, to Al Nassr. 

A move to Arsenal, a club he supports, would have been fulfilling for Watkins; however, now that his continuation is guaranteed, Emery confirmed he is happy and the club and is fully focused on the team.

We asked him how he is feeling being with Villa and he is happy here,” Emery told reporters. 

Watkins played from the start during Aston Villa’s defeat to Wolves earlier today. The Villans are working on bringing in more attacking players before the transfer window. They have been linked with Joao Felix, Marcus Rashford and Marcus Rashford.
