Ole Gunnar Solskjaer criticised a Manchester United transfer decision.

Former Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed disappointment over the club’s decision to sell Scott McTominay to Napoli last summer.

The Scotland international made his debut for the Red Devils in 2017 under Jose Mourinho and has gone about his business professionally. He hit new heights in the past year, adding goals to his game, scoring many for Manchester United and Scotland.

However, he was sacrificed in the summer to remedy the club’s PSR issues, as the €24 million gotten from Napoli for him registered as pure profits, given his status as a homegrown player.

Solskjaer’s regret 

McTominay was a player favoured by the Norwegian during his stint at the club. With the Scotsman shining at Naples this season, scoring six goals so far, Solskjaer expressed regret at the decision to sell the midfielder. 

“Scotty is doing well at Napoli. I’m upset that we let him go because he was important last season when he kept popping up with goals. His heart and his knowledge of the culture were important,” the former Molde coach said. 

“Scott has got the Man Utd DNA, and it’s sad to see him go,” Solskjaer had earlier told The Athletic in a separate interview. “It’s similar to when Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck left. 

“I’m sure he’ll go on to do great things and show both his football and personal qualities. He’s a top pro with a great attitude. He scores important goals for club and country while always wanting to learn and improve.”
