Manchester United legend Gary Neville has singled out one Chelsea star for criticism after the club’s 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.
Gary Neville has expressed his disappointment with Cole Palmer’s behavior after Manchester City’s 3-1 win over Chelsea.
Palmer struggled to make an impact during the game and was seen smiling and chatting with his former manager Pep Guardiola on the pitch after the final whistle.
Neville felt that Palmer’s actions were misplaced, given that Guardiola had sold him and didn’t play him during his time at City.
“I want to say something about Cole Palmer, he was talking to Pep Guardiola on the pitch right at the end of the game and he was smiling with him, Pep Guardiola does that,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“Cole, you’re being played, you’re being played here, you didn’t do enough out on that pitch in the second half.
“I thought Pep Guardiola’s playing you here, I know he’s had him, but he didn’t play him here and he sold him.”
Neville acknowledged that it’s not unusual for players to have a conversation with their former managers, but he felt that Palmer’s behavior was not right.
“Having a conversation inside I’m not against that, obviously he’s played for the manager. But I just felt at the end there’s something about it I didn’t feel was right from a Cole Palmer perspective.”
Chelsea have now fallen out of the top four and extended their disappointing run of form to just one win in 7 league games.
The task for Enzo Maresca will be to lift his team and avoid losing even further ground in the race for Champions League football.
