Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has come under heavy criticism after getting knocked out by Fulham in the FA Cup 5th round.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has fired back at criticism from club legend Wayne Rooney, who labeled him “naive” for stating that the team’s long-term goal is to win the Premier League.

Rooney, United’s record goalscorer, made the comments while working as a BBC pundit, saying:

“I think it’s a little naive to say they’re looking to win the Premier League because from where they are now, they’re a long way off that.”

Manchester United suffered the agony of penalty-shootout defeat against Calvin Bassey’s Fulham to crash out of the FA CUP.

Amorim, who saw his side crash out of the FA Cup to Fulham on penalties, responded to Rooney’s comments, stating:

“That is the goal. Being naive is to think we are going to do it this season or be the best contender next season.”

“Our goal is to win the Premier League. Maybe it is not with me. But our goal, as a club, the board, is to win like we did in the past with all the great glories and legends of this club, and we will want to do better.

“I’m not naive, that’s why I’m here, at 40 years old, coaching Manchester United.”

United’s only chance of silverware is the Europa League, where they have a difficult double-header against La Liga side Real Sociedad coming up.
