Ana Maria Markovic has left Braga less than six months after signing from Zurich FC.
Ana Maria Markovic, widely dubbed “the world’s most beautiful footballer,” has sensationally quit Portuguese club Braga just halfway through the season.
The 25-year-old Croatian forward made headlines last month after a tearful confession in which she admitted she “hates football” while bidding farewell to her boyfriend, Tomas Ribeiro-–as reported by The Sun.
Now, in a dramatic career move, Markovic has mutually agreed to terminate her contract with Braga.
Despite only featuring in four matches for the club, she insisted that her short stint in Portugal allowed her to “develop” as a player.
Taking to Instagram, the blonde beauty addressed her shock departure with a heartfelt statement, writing:
“Sometimes things don’t go as planned. After just half a season, I decided to leave SC Braga.
“It was a short but intense journey with ups and downs, but one in which I was able to grow and develop a lot as a footballer.”
She went on to praise her former teammates, calling them “amazing,” while also thanking Braga for their professionalism and the fans for their support.
“The best part? Definitely my teammates.
“Thank you for your support, team spirit, and all the great moments on and off the pitch – you are amazing!
“A big thank you to the club for their professionalism throughout my time here and to the fans, for the support. The journey continues and I’m excited for what’s next!”

Braga confirms Markovic’s exit
Braga swiftly released an official statement confirming Markovic’s departure, expressing gratitude for her contributions to the club.
The club wrote:
“SC Braga informs that the Club and Ana Maria Marković have terminated, by mutual agreement, the contract that united the two parties. The Croatian international played four games for the Gverreiras do Minho in her debut season in Portuguese football.”
The statement continued:
“SC Braga thanks you for all the dedication, commitment, and professionalism with which you have always represented the club and wishes you all the best in your professional and personal future.”
Markovic, who has over 3 million followers on Instagram, has often seen her talents on the pitch overshadowed by her looks.
With her future now uncertain, fans are left wondering if this marks the end of Markovic’s football journey or whether she has another surprise move up her sleeve.
Marković began playing football professionally in Switzerland.
Markovic scored her first international goal for Croatia in the 2023 World Cup qualifier against Moldova.
While in Switzerland she featured for U21 squad at FC Zurich for three seasons before making the move to Grasshoppers.
In the game against her former club FC Zürich on March 4, 2023, Marković suffered a torn ACL and torn meniscus.
In August 2024, she signed for Portuguese club S.C. Braga, before deciding to part ways less than six months later.
