The injury
The Red Devils were on the wrong side of a 2-0 scoreline at Old Trafford earlier today, taking their home defeats under Amorim to five in seven matches.
The disappointment was compounded by an incident in the 77th minute of the game, when Martinez, in an attempt to intercept a through ball from reaching Ismaila Sarr, hurt himself and went down writhing in pain.
The Red Devils medical staff rushed to the field to administer first aid and had to stretch him off, as it was clear he could not walk off the pitch himself.
What Amorim said
Speaking after the game, the Portuguese coach is not confident of a positive prognosis, as he believes the injury is serious and could keep the Argentine out for a lengthy period.
“We are going to see in the next days but I think it is a serious situation,” he told reporters, per the BBC. “He is not only a great player but a strong character in the dressing room.
“He felt it and when you are a player, you know when it is something serious. We are here to help him in this difficult moment, like he has helped us.”
The 27-year-old has had his fair share of his injuries at the club. This latest trauma comes only 12 months after the medial collateral ligament in his knee that kept him out most of last season.
