Galatasaray ace Victor Osimhen has expressed his determination to play at the 2026 World Cup amid the Super Eagles’ current struggles in the qualifiers.
The 26-year-old was visibly distraught after they failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar following the play-off defeat to Qatar. With qualification for the 2026 edition going awry, Osimhen expressed his determination to play in his first Mundial.

What Osimhen said
The former Wolfsburg striker is aware of the arduous task at hand and believes his teammates and he are determined to get Nigeria back on course for the next global showpiece.
“You have to give everything,” Osimhen said, per Oluwashina Okeleji. “It’s the dream of every youngster to be at the World Cup; mine is no exception.

“So for me, I want to be there, just like every other member of the Super Eagles team. We are really looking forward to the game against Rwanda to try and correct all the mistakes we’ve made in the past qualifiers of the World Cup. So for me, I think we will be ready.”
Super Eagles struggles in World Cup qualifiers
Nigeria are currently fifth in a group of six, having picked up only three points in four games played. They got their points from draws against Lesotho, Zimbabwe and South Africa.
They suffered a shocking defeat to Benin Republic, which further exacerbated their woes. While their chances are bleak as it stands, the Super Eagles still have a decent chance of qualifying.
Their journey restarts next month when they play Rwanda and Zimbabwe on the 21st and 25th of March, respectively. As Osimhen said, the team will try to make a statement in those games.
