Bellingham has been handed two-match ban for verbally abusing referee Jose Munuera Montero.

Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has been slapped with a two-match ban by the Spanish Football Association (RFEF) for verbally abusing a referee during his team’s 1-1 LaLiga draw at Osasuna on Saturday.

The 21-year-old England international was sent off by referee Jose Munuera Montero, who believed Bellingham had directed abusive language at him.

Despite Bellingham and his coach Carlo Ancelotti denying the allegations, the RFEF Disciplinary Committee upheld the punishment, citing “attitudes of contempt or lack of consideration towards referees.”

Real Madrid has announced plans to appeal the decision, hoping to have Bellingham available for upcoming LaLiga matches against Girona and Betis.

The incident has sparked a heated debate in Spanish media about translation and cultural interpretations of English profanity.

In a statement released on Tuesday reported by Reuters, the RFEF expressed concern over the abuse referee Montero has received since sending Bellingham off, stating that referees are “sickened” by the treatment.

Bellingham’s ban will be a big blow to Real Madrid, who are currently vying for the LaLiga title.

The English midfielder has been a key player for the team this season, and his absence will be deeply felt.

However, UEFA has suspended Spanish referee Jose Luis Munuera Montero from officiating in European competitions until further notice.
