The Katsina State Government has dismissed reports claiming that Abdussalam Rabiu, the winner of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition and a final-year medical student, has been killed by his abductors.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Culture, Commissioner Bala Zango clarified that Abdussalam, his father, and his brother who were kidnapped by bandits are still alive. He further revealed that the kidnappers are demanding a N30 million ransom for their release.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda condemned the kidnapping as unfortunate, expressing sympathy for the victims and their families. “My heart is with the victims, their family, relatives, and friends, and we pray they safely regain freedom,” he stated.

The governor assured the public that his administration is working closely with security agencies to secure their release, urging law enforcement to intensify efforts in tackling insecurity.

He also called on citizens to pray for the safe return of Abdussalam and other abducted persons.

Abdussalam was kidnapped shortly after he was honored by the Katsina State Government for his remarkable performance at the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition held in Kebbi State.

The attack occurred while he was returning to Faskari Local Government Area with his family.

Meanwhile, the Katsina State Government acknowledged concerns raised by the Kebbi State Government over the incident but emphasized that reports of Abdussalam’s death are false.
