Olympic champion Masai Russell penned a confident message for the 2025 season after her impressive performance in Texas.
American sprint hurdling champion Masai Russell is pumped for another iconic season, following her world-leading performance at the Texas Tech Corky Classic in Lubbock.
The 24-year-old stormed to the 60mH win in a brilliant time of 7.89s to officially kick off her 2025 season. She finished ahead of her training partner and world record holder Devynne Charlton in 7.93s, while veteran Christina Clemons was third in 8.04s.
Reacting to her performance, Russell shared the video of her race on her Instagram page with the caption: “7.89 SEASON OPENER… let the season begin ⚡️.”

Her performance is a warning signal to her rivals on the form she’s in and her readiness to prove that last year’s success was no fluke.
Russell had a brilliant breakout 2024 season which saw her win the Olympic 100mH gold medal in Paris, dipping to victory in 12.33s. It took a photo finish to decide the medallists as Cyrena Samba-Mayela delighted the home crowd by securing silver for France in 12.34s, and Puerto Rico’s defending champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn got bronze in 12.36s.
