Patrick Dorgu’s third appearance for Manchester United ended in disaster as he received a straight red card during the team’s dramatic 3-2 victory over Ipswich. The 20-year-old, who arrived from Lecce in January, endured a tough night at Old Trafford, playing a role in Jaden Philogene’s early opener before his inexperience led to a reckless challenge on Omari Hutchinson.

With United leading 2-1 after goals from Matthijs de Ligt and an own goal from Ipswich captain Sam Morsy, Dorgu’s mistimed tackle in the 43rd minute left referee Darren England no choice but to send him off after a VAR review.

Ipswich quickly capitalized, with Philogene equalizing before halftime, but United held on for victory thanks to Harry Maguire’s decisive header early in the second half.

The straight red card means Dorgu will serve a three-match domestic suspension, ruling him out of key fixtures:

  • FA Cup (March 2): Manchester United vs. Fulham
  • Premier League (March 9): Manchester United vs. Arsenal
  • Premier League (March 16): Leicester vs. Manchester United

Although he will miss these crucial games, the young defender remains eligible for United’s UEFA Europa League round of 16 clashes with Real Sociedad. He will be available for Premier League action again on April 1, when United face Nottingham Forest.

With Dorgu sidelined, United manager Ruben Amorim may opt to shift Diogo Dalot to left-back, allowing Noussair Mazraoui to slot in at right-back. This tactical adjustment could be crucial as United prepare for a tough run of fixtures, particularly the highly anticipated showdown against Arsenal.

Dorgu’s suspension is a setback for both the player and the team, but United will need to adapt quickly as they aim to maintain momentum in both domestic and European competitions.
