Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim is pushing to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres in the upcoming summer transfer window. The Swedish forward has been in sensational form this season, netting 39 goals and providing nine assists in 40 appearances across all competitions.
Gyokeres has excelled in the Portuguese league, scoring 27 goals and registering five assists in just 24 league matches. With a release clause set at €100m (£84m), reports suggest he could be available for around €71m (£60m) this summer.
Amorim is reportedly leading United’s pursuit of Gyokeres, having worked closely with him at Sporting. The striker boasts an incredible record of 82 goals and 24 assists in 90 appearances under the Portuguese coach.
The 26-year-old, Viktor Gyokeres has previous experience in English football, playing for Brighton, Swansea, and Coventry City. However, he never made a Premier League appearance, with his 43 goals for Coventry coming in the Championship.
Manchester United are in desperate need of a reliable goalscorer, as Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled to deliver consistent performances this season. While Zirkzee has shown improvement lately, neither has proven to be a 20-goal-a-season striker.
Amorim sees Gyokeres as the ideal addition to strengthen United’s attacking options and provide the clinical edge they’ve been lacking. The Swedish forward’s physicality and finishing ability make him well-suited for the Premier League.
Meanwhile, United have missed out on signing Sporting’s 17-year-old talent Geovany Quenda, who is set to join Chelsea. The youngster will remain on loan at Sporting until 2026 before moving to Stamford Bridge.
With Quenda slipping away, Amorim is even more determined to secure Gyokeres’ signature and bring a proven goal machine to Old Trafford.
