Rio Ferdinand has identified Victor Osimhen as the ideal January signing to rescue Manchester United from their scoring slump and guide young striker Rasmus Hojlund.
United’s inability to find the back of the net has been a major issue this season, with only five Premier League teams scoring fewer goals.
The pressure on 21-year-old Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta for £72 million in 2023, has increased amid Marcus Rashford’s apparent exclusion from the squad.
Although Hojlund has managed 23 goals in 71 career appearances, his Premier League tally stands at just two this season.
Speaking after United’s narrow victory over Fulham, Ferdinand expressed concern about Hojlund’s development, suggesting that the club needs an experienced striker to guide him.
He proposed Victor Osimhen, the Napoli forward currently on loan at Galatasaray, as the perfect solution.
“Hojlund is a young striker who needs someone to mentor him,” Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. “Osimhen guarantees goals and has experience at the highest level. United should act quickly and secure him, even on loan.”
Osimhen, who has scored 16 goals in 20 appearances for Galatasaray, has been linked to a big-money move to the Premier League.
While Napoli reportedly values him at £62 million, his loan agreement with the Turkish club complicates any immediate transfer.
Until then, Ferdinand emphasized the need for United’s current players to step up, with an eye on their crucial Europa League clash against FCSB on Thursday.
