Neymar revealed how Lionel Messi’s arrival led to the breakdown of his relationship with Kylian Mbappe.

Brazil international Neymar revealed the point at which his relationship with his former teammate Kylian Mbappe began to fracture.

The summer of 2017 was sensational for Paris Saint-Germain, as the French champions made two sensational signings. First, they brought in Neymar for what is still the global transfer record, triggering his €222 million release clause from Barcelona. Weeks later, they signed Mbappe on a loan with an obligation to buy for €160 million.

According to Neymar, the going was good for most of their time together. On the pitch, they combined to lead the Parisiens to their first-ever Champions League final, losing to Bayern Munich. 

However, that relationship soon turned sour, and Neymar was pushed out of the club to Al Hilal as his relationship with Mbappe reportedly reached a breaking point. 

What Neymar said

In a recent interview, the Al Hilal forward spoke in depth about his career and was unavoidably asked about his relationship with Mbappe. According to Neymar, Messi’s arrival was when the wheels started to fall off, as Mbappe was jealous of their friendship. 

“Mbappé was not annoying! When Messi came, I think he became a little jealous,” Neymar revealed.

“I had my things with him, we had a little fight. He was a boy that in the beginning was key, I used to call him ‘Golden Boy’, I was spoke to him, played around with him, told him he’d be one of the best, I always help, always had conversations with him”.

“When Leo arrived, he became a little jealous. He didn’t want to share me with anyone! [laughs] That’s how the fights started, the change in behaviour.
