Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has backed Cristiano Ronaldo’s GOAT claims as the Portuguese legend turns 40.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been locked in a rivalry for more than 15 years, with many choosing one or the other as football’s GOAT.

While Messi has often preferred to shy away from crowning himself the greatest of all time, Ronaldo has continued to tell everyone that he deserves to be known as the sport’s greatest.

In a recent interview, the 40-year-old Al Nassr forward called himself the most complete footballer in history and claimed there was no one better than him.

“I think I’m the most complete player there has ever been,” he insisted.

“Taste is one thing, saying this, that or that, whether you prefer Messi, Pele, or Maradona, I hear it and I respect it but to say that Cristiano isn’t complete is a lie. I’m the most complete. I don’t see anyone better than me and I tell you that with all my heart.”

His comments caused a storm on social media, but his former boss, Carlo Ancelotti, has clearly picked sides, echoing CR7’s claims.

“Cristiano has left his mark on an era, he is leaving his mark on an era,” the Real boss told reporters.

“For me, he has been the best. Also because he has helped me a lot, with the goals he has scored, to remain calm on the Real Madrid bench.”

It is no surprise that Ancelotti is picking Ronaldo over Messi since the pair worked together and won a Champions League title in 2014.

However, the debate is far from over and this one will rage on for years to come.
