According to L’Equipe, the French side values Ndidi’s experience and sees him as a key addition to their midfield.
Monaco’s interest in Ndidi grows
The French club have reportedly made Ndidi their latest target as they seek to strengthen their squad with an experienced midfielder.
Monaco had initially targeted West Ham’s Edson Alvarez but saw their loan approach rejected. As a result, the Principality side has turned its attention to Ndidi, whose proven track record in the Premier League makes him an attractive option.
While Monaco has yet to submit a formal offer, Ndidi is reportedly open to the move. This follows a summer of speculation linking him to Olympique de Marseille before he extended his Leicester City contract by three years.
However, the opportunity to return to the heights of European football with Monaco could be a compelling reason for Ndidi to consider leaving the Foxes.
Ndidi following in Ikpeba’s footsteps
If the move materialises, Ndidi will join the ranks of Nigerian players who have left their mark at Monaco, most notably Victor Ikpeba.
Nicknamed “The Prince of Monaco,” Ikpeba became a club legend during his time there, winning the 1997 African Footballer of the Year award.
Ndidi would become the eighth Nigerian to don Monaco’s colours, following the likes of Ikpeba, Lukman Haruna, Elderson Echiejile, Rabiu Afolabi, Sani Kaita, Henry Onyekuru, and George Ilenikhena.
Since joining Leicester City in 2017, Ndidi has made 290 appearances, earning recognition as a modern icon for the Foxes.
