The talented youngster played under the former Super Eagles boss Finidi George and his young assistant Yemi Olanrewaju in Nigeria.

Nigerian youth international Chibueze Izuogu has expressed gratitude towards his former coaches at Enyimba, Finidi George and Yemi Olanrewaju, for their mentorship during his development as a player.

In an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Nigeria, the 19-year-old midfielder reflected on his experiences at Enyimba, where he honed his skills before moving to Europe last year.

The wonderkid has backed Nwankwo Kanu’s struggling Enyimba to turn their season around in the league.

Kanu’s Enyimba avoided defeat at home in the decisive CAFCC clash against visitors Al Masry SC.

Izuogu recently transitioned from the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL, to play on loan at CSF Spartanii in Moldova.

His move comes after a notable outing with Nigeria’s Flying Eagles at the African Games in Ghana earlier in 2024, where he scored two goals and provided one assist in three matches.

This performance from the highly rated youngster projected his potential and affirmed his upward trajectory in football.

In the interview, Izuogu shared, “My time at Enyimba was really good; I had some great players around. They showed me, taught me, encouraged me, and I had my coaches, Finidi and Yemi Olanrewaju, always supporting me.”

He told Pulse Sports that the encouragement from both coaches and fans significantly shaped his career and helped him adapt to the challenges in Moldova.

“They always gave me support, telling me ‘yes, you can do this’ and the fans as well. So, that really shaped and (has) helped me in my time at Spartarnii. I have people always pushing me to do better. I think that helps a lot.”

Discussing the differences between the NPFL and European football, Izuogu noted that European play is essentially more tactical.

“The tactical part of the game, the equipment and stuff to help you improve… we don’t really have much equipment in Nigeria, sorry to say. But that is the truth,” he added.

Having embarked on this new chapter in Moldova, Izuogu remains focused on leveraging his experiences from Enyimba and contributing effectively to his current team.

His journey reflects the growing opportunities for young Nigerian talents in the nation’s elite league and how youngsters can achieve their European dreams via the NPFL.
