Retired track icon Justin Gatlin revealed shortcomings on athletes contracts, also stating Noah Lyles is probably the highest-paid athlete on $2,000,000.

American sprint legend Justin Gatlin believes Olympic champion Noah Lyles has the highest-paid contract of any track and field athlete yearly.

Speaking on the Draft Kings podcast, Gatlin was asked who he believed had the highest-earning contract of all athletes, and he wasted no time in saying Lyles.

“But if you don’t make an Olympic team or a world championships team, paying you the big money they can reduce you,” said Gatlin.

“Like so you start with this amount and you realize that oh because I got fourth, didn’t lean at the line, now you getting 25k cut, 50k cut out of your contract and now you’re looking at a whole different contract.”

In February 2024, reports circulated that Lyles extended his contract with Adidas, and is allegedly the richest and biggest contract in track and field history since Usain Bolt‘s retirement.

According to his agency Global Athletics Management, the six-time world champion will represent the brand until the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
