The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe State has arrested 17 suspects for allegedly vandalizing electrical power installations, telecommunications masts, and other critical infrastructure in the state.

The Commander of the General’s Special Intelligence Squad, AS Dandaura, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Damaturu.

He revealed that a clearance operation led to the discovery of three warehouses stocked with stolen materials. The warehouses were located at Pilgrim Nassarawa bypass, Dujiya behind the new market, and Abari bypass, all within the state capital.

According to Dandaura, security operatives are currently tracking the suspected mastermind of the operation, Aliyu Ajakuta, also known as the chairman of the Scrap Dealers Association in the area.

Items recovered from the warehouses include telecommunications masts, Base Transceiver Stations (BTS), bags of armoured cables, rail track slippers, solar panels, and batteries, among others.

The NSCDC has reaffirmed its commitment to tackling vandalism and protecting public infrastructure, urging residents to report any suspicious activities to security agencies. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspects are expected to face prosecution.
