The Ogun State Government has announced that tolling operations on the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway will commence on Monday, 24th March 2025.

According to the government, this measure aims to ensure sustainable road maintenance, efficient operations, and enhanced road safety.

The 14.7km road had previously been in a poor and hazardous state for commuters until it was reconstructed by the Abiodun-led administration.

The Director-General of the Office of Public-Private Partnerships, Dapo Oduwole, made the announcement in a statement released to the press on Wednesday.

He explained that the governor considers the expressway a strategic corridor for economic activities between Nigeria’s commercial capital, Lagos, and Ogun State, making its timely completion a priority.

Oduwole further assured that road users would enjoy an unhindered commute, as necessary amenities had been provided to make the expressway one of the best in the country.

“Upon assuming office and designing an effective transport system to boost the state’s microeconomy, Prince Dapo Abiodun recognised the economic significance of the Epe-Mojoda-Ijebu-Ode Expressway,” he said.

“The government opted for a public-private partnership for managing the road, including toll collection. However, in consideration of residents and road users, tolling operations were delayed since 2021 to provide some relief.

“While prioritising public interest, we must also consider the economic interests of investors to strike a balance. After nearly four years of toll-free usage, the time has come to commence tolling operations.”

Oduwole noted that certain road users would be exempt from toll payments, including emergency response vehicles such as ambulances, fire service trucks, and patrol vehicles. Others exempted include government-owned security vehicles, Ogun State Government official vehicles, and any others as determined by the state government.

He urged all road users to comply with the tolling regulations, warning that enforcement measures would be strictly implemented without bias.
