Members of the Association of Non-Indigenes in Ogun State have been admonished to familiarise themselves with the culture and traditions of their host community and accord them the utmost respect in order to foster peaceful coexistence across the state.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Oluwatoyin Taiwo, gave the charge while hosting members of the association in his office at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

Taiwo stressed the importance of living together in love, unity, and harmony, adding that the present administration had fostered this by harmonising the activities of various tribes, races, and cultures towards achieving peaceful cohabitation.

Earlier, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Inter-Ethnic Affairs, Hadi Sani, said non-indigenes in Ogun State could not but appreciate Governor Dapo Abiodun for giving both indigenes and non-indigenes equal opportunities in the state.

He noted that the association had been very helpful in conflict resolution while ensuring that the girl child among non-indigenes was enrolled in school, changing the narrative from what it used to be.

Reacting, the President of the Association, Sarki Innuwa, appreciated the government for ensuring that non-indigenes in the state were not left out in governance. He stated that they were at the Chief of Staff’s office to seek the state government’s partnership for their forthcoming annual Non-Indigene Cultural Day, aimed at promoting peace and tranquillity in society.

Innuwa added that the association had mediated in some inter-ethnic crises by ensuring peaceful coexistence between various tribes in the state.
