Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen has spoken of his great desire to play in the upcoming World Cup.

Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen has expressed his desperation to help the Super Eagles qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Super Eagles have made a winless start in Group C, drawing three of their first four games, with Osimhen absent due to injury.

Austin Eguavoen, Technical Director of the NFF has denied suggestions that head coach Eric Chelle did not have full control over selecting Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.


Osimhen is eager to make amends for Nigeria’s heartbreaking failure to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, losing their spot to fierce rivals Ghana.

The Galatasaray striker emphasised the importance of qualifying for the World Cup, saying,

“It’s a dream of every footballer to play at the World Cup and with our situation in the group I am desperate, like other players, to make it to the 2026 tournament.

“We suffered a big disappointment in 2022 and we simply can’t let it happen again to us, the country, and our generation.

“You don’t want to finish your career with the regrets of not playing at the World Cup. That is not what I want for myself.”

Nigeria will confront group C leaders Rwanda in Kigali on Friday, 21st March before taking on Zimbabwe’s Warriors at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo four days later.
