Onuachu ends drought in dramatic fashion

Paul Onuachu’s Premier League breakthrough came late in the match, as his towering header from a Mateus Fernandes cross offered a glimmer of hope for Southampton.

The goal, though too late to salvage a point, marked the end of a challenging spell for the Nigerian, who had gone 658 days without scoring since joining the Saints in January 2023.

Onuachu had struggled to adapt to the rigours of the English top flight in his earlier appearances before being loaned to Trabzonspor, where he rediscovered his scoring touch with 17 goals and four assists.

Juric believes Onuachu can rescue Southampton

The new Southampton boss shared his belief in Onuachu’s abilities following the loss to Nottingham Forest, stating, “I think Paul has quality. He wants to score, he is a fighter. This is the quality, and I want players with quality. I think Paul can give us a lot.”

Despite Onuachu’s efforts, Southampton’s defeat to Nottingham Forest leaves them firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table with just six points from 22 games, with the Saints desperate for results as they aim to claw their way out of the relegation zone.
