Marcus Rashford’s future at Manchester United remains uncertain as the forward has fallen out of favour under manager Ruben Amorim.

The England international last featured for the Red Devils during their Europa League clash with Viktoria Plzen on December 12 and has since been sidelined amid reports of his desire to seek a new challenge.  

While United have not officially placed Rashford on the transfer list, the club is reportedly open to selling him if a suitable offer comes in during the January window. 

Barcelona have emerged as frontrunners for his signature, with Rashford said to favour a move to Camp Nou over interest from Borussia Dortmund and AC Milan.

Barca’s financial woes could complicate move

However, the Catalan giants’ financial troubles have cast doubt over their ability to secure Rashford’s services. 

According to other reports, Barcelona have activated another financial lever, involving the sale of VIP seating at the redeveloped Camp Nou. The funds from this deal are expected to satisfy La Liga’s 1:1 rule, potentially enabling Barca to register Rashford if an agreement with United is reached.  

Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund remain in the race and are reportedly considering a loan move. The German side have the financial capacity to cover Rashford’s hefty £325,000-a-week wages, but the forward has not given the green light to the move.

Amorim has revealed after Manchester United’s 3-1 loss to Brighton that Rashford’s continued absence from the team is due to the player’s own decision.

The situation is expected to remain unchanged as the Red Devils prepare to take on Scottish side Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday.
