The Italian tactician admitted he might step away from the club at the end of the season, prompting Atalanta’s hierarchy to start exploring potential successors, with a shortlist of high-profile names emerging as possible replacements.

According to Calciomercato.com, Atalanta have already identified several potential candidates to replace Gasperini, with Maurizio Sarri standing out as a strong contender.

The former Napoli, Juventus, and Lazio manager is currently without a club after leaving Lazio, and his tactical approach could align well with Atalanta’s attacking philosophy.

Sarri’s possession-based football and emphasis on intricate build-up play have drawn comparisons to Gasperini’s high-pressing system, making him a logical choice to take over in Bergamo.

Given that he is readily available, he could be an attractive low-cost, high-reward appointment for Atalanta’s management.

Another name gaining traction is Raffaele Palladino, the 40-year-old Monza and Fiorentina boss, who has impressed in Italy and once played under Gasperini at Genoa, citing the Atalanta coach as one of his biggest influences.

Other candidates for Atalanta job

Beyond Sarri and Palladino, Olympique Marseille boss Roberto De Zerbi has also been linked with the Atalanta job.

The Italian tactician has gained recognition for his work at Brighton and Marseille, however, his past ties with rival club Brescia could complicate a potential move to Bergamo.

Meanwhile, Ivan Juric, a former disciple of Gasperini, has also been mentioned as a potential candidate, and the former Torino coach has built a reputation for his gritty, well-organized teams, which could provide continuity to Atalanta’s established playing identity.

Another option under consideration is Igor Tudor, while Ralf Rangnick has been highlighted as an exciting alternative. The Austrian tactician, currently managing Austria’s national team, is highly regarded by Atalanta’s owners, who believe he could help take them to the next level.
