The Danish international has failed to find the back of the net in his last 16 appearances for the club and has only scored two Premier League goals all season.

Hojlund’s poor form has led to him being substituted in a number of recent matches, including the 2-2 draw with Everton on Saturday, with Chido Obi-Martin replacing the Danish striker at Goodison Park with 20 minutes remaining.

There were cheers from some United fans when Hojlund was taken off in that game, further highlighting the frustration surrounding the former Atalanta striker, who joined the Red Devils for an initial £64 million fee plus £8 million in performance-related add-ons.

United manager Ruben Amorim has also publicly expressed his frustration with Hojlund’s performances, previously questioning the striker’s work rate and his ability to hold the ball up.

The 22-year-old’s struggles have led to speculation that he could be sold in the summer transfer window.

United are expected to be in the market for a new striker in the summer, putting the the Dane’s place in the squad under threat.

What next for Manchester United?

Amorim’s men host Ipswich Town on Wednesday, February 26, keen to return to winning ways after a three-match winless run.
