Belgian footballer Radja Nainggolan has been arrested as part of a large-scale investigation into cocaine trafficking.
The Brussels prosecutor’s office announced the 36-year-old arrest on Monday.

The midfielder, who recently came out of retirement to sign with Lokeren in the Belgian second division, was among several suspects apprehended by Belgian police in a series of raids across the country.

According to the prosecutor’s office, “The investigation concerns alleged facts of importation of cocaine from South America to Europe, via the port of Antwerp, and its redistribution in Belgium.”
The prosecutor’s office has released no further information on the investigation, and it is unclear what role Nainggolan is alleged to have played in the cocaine trafficking operation.

Nainggolan’s arrest comes just six days after he scored on his debut for Lokeren, securing a 1-1 draw against K. Lierse.
The midfielder, born in Antwerp, has had a storied career, playing for Roma and Inter Milan in Italy, as well as making 30 appearances for the Belgium national team between 2009 and 2018.
