The seven-time F1 champion appreciated his former team in a special way after 12 years together.
Lewis Hamilton is proving once again why he’s not just a seven-time Formula One world champion but also a class act off the track.
The 40-year-old British racing icon, who made a sensational move to Ferrari after 12 glorious years with Mercedes, has left his former team with a heartfelt parting gift that has melted the hearts of fans.
According to The Daily Mail, Hamilton went all out to commission a special artwork for every single one of his 3,000 former Mercedes colleagues—a gesture that underscores his deep appreciation for the team that helped him win six Driver’s Championships and cement his place in F1 history.
The artwork, created by renowned motorsport artist Paul Oz, depicts Hamilton’s car at the 2019 Monaco Grand Prix, a race that holds deep sentimental value.
The original oil painting now hangs at Mercedes’ Brackley headquarters, while each staff member received their own personal print.
Is Lewis Hamilton’s New York lunch with Sofia Vergara just a casual outing, or the start of a high-profile romance?
Paul Oz reveals Hamilton’s emotional request
In a now-deleted Instagram post, Oz confirmed Hamilton’s request, calling it a true “class act.”
“Now that it’s public knowledge and all 3,000 Mercedes GP employees have received their prints of this, I can talk about it,” Oz wrote.
“Commissioned by Lewis himself as a departing present for everybody at Mercedes… My only remit was that I should focus on the car rather than Lewis, and so I chose to paint an image from Monaco 2019, just days after Niki Lauda passed, when the team ran a red halo to remember him. Lewis put it on pole and dominated the race.”
Hamilton is currently in Barcelona for pre-season testing with Ferrari, as he gears up for his maiden campaign with the Italian giants.
With the new Formula One season kicking off in Bahrain on February 26, all eyes will be on the Brit as he embarks on this new chapter in his legendary career.
