Manchester United fans are desperate for new signings after their team suffered a humiliating 2-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace, leaving them 13th in the Premier League.
Manager Ruben Amorim is pushing for attacking reinforcements before the deadline, and club legend Rio Ferdinand has made his preferred choice clear: Victor Osimhen.
The Nigerian striker, currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, has been in outstanding form, netting 17 goals in 21 appearances in Turkey.
Ferdinand believes Osimhen could be the answer to United’s scoring woes, saying on his YouTube channel, “Get him on loan, man. If it’s possible, I would have got him.”
Osimhen played a crucial role in Napoli’s Serie A title win in 2022-23, scoring 76 goals in 133 games for the club. However, under Antonio Conte, he has been frozen out and could be available if United act quickly.
Amorim appeared to send a message to the club’s board by starting midfielder Kobbie Mainoo as a makeshift striker against Palace, with £73m signing Rasmus Højlund and Joshua Zirkzee left on the bench.
Ferdinand has previously questioned Højlund’s development, stating, “He’s a young striker, but normally a striker of that age learns from someone. He’s got nobody to learn off.”
With the transfer window closing soon, Amorim remains hopeful but cautious. “We are trying everything to improve the team without making the mistakes of the past,” he said. Whether United make a move for Osimhen or another forward remains to be seen, but time is running out.
