Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has reassured fans that Christian Eriksen remains in peak condition, dispelling concerns sparked by his recent comments regarding the midfielder’s health.

Eriksen was left out of United’s squad during their 1-0 defeat to Tottenham, with Amorim initially citing an illness and referring to the need to handle him “carefully” due to his “heart situation.”

Given Eriksen’s history having suffered a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 those words raised fears about his long-term future in the game.

However, Amorim moved quickly to clarify his statement, ensuring supporters that Eriksen is in excellent shape.

“With Chris, it was a misunderstanding,” Amorim explained ahead of United’s match against Everton. “He’s healthy and ready to play for many years at a high level. It was just my limitation in explaining the situation, and I want to make that very clear.”

The update comes as a relief to fans who have witnessed Eriksen’s remarkable return to the top level of football after being fitted with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).

In more positive news, Amorim confirmed that Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro are also back in the squad. However, winger Amad Diallo is expected to miss the rest of the season due to ankle ligament damage.

“Amad is out for a long time,” Amorim stated. “Mason [Mount] and Luke [Shaw] continue their recovery, but we don’t have a set return date for them.”

Meanwhile, United have been drawn against Real Sociedad in the Europa League round of 16, but Amorim is keeping his focus firmly on Everton.

“We are in a difficult situation in the Premier League, and we have issues to solve in every game,” he said. “If I focus on Real Sociedad and trophies right now, I wouldn’t be doing my job properly. The focus is on Everton.”

With Everton rejuvenated under David Moyes, Amorim expects a tough battle at Goodison Park but remains optimistic about his squad’s progress.

“The team is improving in training, the chemistry is growing, and you can feel the difference,” he said. “Now, we just need to translate that into our performances on the pitch.”
