The Kremlin has stated that the possibility of a new prisoner exchange between Russia and the United States is on the agenda, following an agreement between Moscow and Washington to begin efforts to restore relations at all levels.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made this announcement on Thursday, noting that US-Russia talks held on Tuesday in Riyadh had contributed to a general rapprochement between the two countries.

At least 10 Americans remain imprisoned in Russia, including two whom Washington has designated as wrongfully detained.

Moscow recently released an American citizen, Kalob Byers, just days before the Russian and American delegations met in the Saudi capital. Earlier, in February, Russia freed Marc Fogel, a US schoolteacher who had been serving a 14-year sentence for drug smuggling after being caught at a Moscow airport with a small quantity of marijuana. He was released in exchange for Alexander Vinnik, a Russian cybercrime figure who had pleaded guilty to money laundering following his extradition from Greece.

This exchange followed a much larger prisoner swap last August, involving the United States, Germany, Norway, Slovenia, Russia, and Belarus.
