Will the Egyptian star hit more milestones against the Champions League-chasing Newcastle United?

Mohamed Salah could set more Premier League records against Newcastle United, with Arne Slot’s men aiming for a third consecutive top-flight victory at Anfield after wins over Ipswich (4-1) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (2-1).

Liverpool vs Newcastle

The Reds are strong favourites heading into their Premier League clash with Newcastle at Anfield.

History heavily favours the Reds, who are unbeaten in their last 28 home league matches against the Magpies, a run stretching back to 1994.

Furthermore, Newcastle have not tasted victory against Liverpool in any Premier League match since 2015.

Newcastle’s struggles against top-of-the-table teams are well-documented, with the Magpies failing to win any of their last 20 away matches against league leaders, with their last such victory coming in 2014 — against Chelsea in December 2014.

This, coupled with Liverpool’s impressive scoring record at Anfield – they have scored at least twice in their last 17 home games in all competitions – suggests a home win is on the cards.

Those statistics are music to Salah’s ears, with the Egyptian’s eyes probably lighting up at the prospect of Eddie Howe’s side visiting.

A great challenge - Slot believes Liverpool can help Mo Salah win Ballon d'Or

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has backed Mohamed Salah to win Ballon d’Or award.

Salah chasing milestones against Newcastle

  • Salah has been in fine goalscoring form against Newcastle United, finding the net twice in each of their last two Premier League encounters. He is now aiming to emulate Michael Owen, the only Liverpool player to score multiple goals in three consecutive league games against a single opponent. The Englishman achieved this feat four times against Newcastle between August 1998 and May 2001.
  • In his last five league appearances against Newcastle, Salah has consistently contributed to Liverpool’s goals, either scoring or assisting. The forward has scored three goals and provided two assists in those matches.
  • Salah is currently on a remarkable scoring streak, having found the net in eight consecutive appearances for Liverpool. He is now just one game away from equalling his own club record of scoring in ten consecutive matches, set in 2021.

What next for Liverpool?

A third consecutive league win at Anfield on Wednesday could see Liverpool increase their 11-point advantage over Arsenal at the end of the gameweek, though Slot’s men have played one more game.

The Reds are next in action on March 5 against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
