The match, held at the Onikan Stadium, ended with a resounding 4-1 victory for the home side, leaving Pillars grappling with their performance on Wednesday evening.

Ikorodu City will host Kano Pillars at the Mobolaji Jhonson Arena on Wednesday.
From the outset, it was clear that Ikorodu City was determined to make a statement. Winger Shola Adelani set the tone early in the third minute with a powerful header from a corner taken by Salau Yusuf.

As the match progressed, Harrison Austin doubled Ikorodu’s lead in the 20th minute with a stunning shot from outside the box. The Pillars’ defence struggled to contain the relentless attack from City, and despite managing to score one goal before halftime, it felt more like a fleeting moment of hope than a turning point.
The second half saw Ikorodu City quickly restore their two-goal cushion. A corner kick taken by Austin was inadvertently turned into his own net by Pillars’ legend Rabiu Ali, further demoralising the visitors.

With 17 minutes left on the clock, Ayomide Cole sealed the deal for Ikorodu City. Coming off the bench, he scored just three minutes after entering the game, driving home another assist from Salau Yusuf—who had become the star of the match with three assists to his name.
As the final whistle blew, it was clear that this match would linger in the minds of Musa and his teammates.

What the result means
Currently positioned eighth on the league table with 28 points after 21 matches, Pillars have much to reflect on as they aim to regain their footing in the league.
Meanwhile, Ikorodu City celebrated their impressive rise to fifth place with 31 points, in what is turning out to be a dreamy NPFL debut.
