Nwankwo Kanu and Enyimba have turned their attention to the Nigerian league after the CAFCC heartbreak.

Four days after a disappointing exit from the CAF Confederation Cup, CAFCC, Enyimba FC, led by chairman and Super Eagles legend, Nwankwo Kanu, are gearing up to resume their campaign in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). 

The club, which is Nigeria’s most successful football team, will kick off the second half of the season against Kano Pillars in a highly anticipated match on Wednesday.

The highly rated midfielder is eyeing the Nigeria senior national team the Super Eagles after impressing in the Flying Eagles.

The talented youngster played under the former Super Eagles boss Finidi George and his young assistant Yemi Olanrewaju in Nigeria.

Enyimba’s recent performance in the CAFCC was lacklustre, managing only one win in six matches in the group stages and concluding their journey with a 3-1 defeat to Zamalek in Cairo. 

Currently sitting seventh in the NPFL standings, with two games in hand, Enyimba aim to improve their form and push for a top-four finish as they look to reclaim their status as league champions.

Kano Pillars, just behind Enyimba at ninth place and featuring Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa among their ranks, pose a significant challenge, however. 

The head-to-head record between the two teams indicates a competitive rivalry, with Pillars having five wins compared to Enyimba’s four in their last ten encounters. 

Notably, home advantage has been crucial in this fixture, as the home team has won all of the last seven meetings.

With all set for the league to resume for the business end of the season, there is a need for Enyimba to bounce back from their recent setbacks and focus on achieving either the league title or securing a continental competition spot. 

Their youngster, Chibueze Izuogu, has backed the Elephants to put behind them the disappointment that has led to the sack of youthful coach Yemi Olanrewaju, who has been replaced with the experienced Stanley Eguma.

According to the Flying Eagles star, in an exclusive interview with Pulse Sports Nigeria, Enyimba can still win the 2024/2025 NPFL season.

The upcoming clash against Kano Pillars is not just another game; it represents an opportunity for Enyimba to prove their on-loan wonderkid right and reestablish themselves as kings of Nigerian football with a big win in Kano.
