Naija Stars Abroad enjoyed an interesting weekend across the world led by the sensational Sweet Tea, Calvin Bassey and a Super Falcons star midfielder in France.

Naija Stars Abroad made waves for their respective clubs at the weekend, with players like Toluwase ‘Tea’ Arokodare and Calvin Bassey leading the pack in the absence of some of Super Eagles superstars like Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman.

While Osimhen will be in action on Monday night against Olawoyin Ibrahim in Turkey, Atalanta struggled again without the injured African Player of the Year, Lookman.

However, Nigerians still set their clubs on fire with Arokodare scoring his 15th of the season for Genk in Belgium. The 24-year-old is working hard to get Eric Chelle’s attention and could finally get his Super Eagles chance under the new gaffer.

Another player who could get a chance is Bundesliga new boy Gift Orban who seems to have rediscovered his scoring touch at modest club Hoffenhiem.

The 22-year-old scored his third goal in the last four matches for the club, leading them to a 3-1 at Werder Bremen. Three goals in six appearances for the club since the switch from Lyon in January.

In the biggest game in Germany, Bayer Leverkusen agains Bayern Munich, only Nathan Tella was the Super Eagles player who tasted action in the goalless affair. 

His more illustrious and talented compatroit Victor Boniface was made to watch the game as a spectator from start to finish on the bench.

Sadiq Umar was the hero in the Spanish LalLiga where he rescued new club Valencia from defeat against Villarreal in their 1-1 draw.

21-year-old Super Eagles hopeful Chrisantus Uche made another case for his first call-up after leading Getafe to a hard-fought 2-1 win at Girona. 

Uche, who is a midfielder but has played as a centre forward in getafe’s ultra defensive setup, has scored three goals and assisted two in his LaLiga debut season.

Elsewhere, Chuba Akpom showed Ajax what they are missing after going from zero to hero for new club LOSC Lille in France. 

After missing a penalty, the 29-year-old went on to score the winner as Lille defeated Rennes 2-0 away. It was his second goal in two matches in the Ligue 1.

Moses Simon registered another goal contribution but ended on the losing side as Nantes suffered a 7-1 defeat to Monaco, inspired by another Nigerian star George Ilenikhena, who scored twice.

Moses now has seven assists and five goals this season while Ilenikhena has three goals and two assists.

Still in France, it was the Jennifer Echegini show for Paris Saint-Germain women in their one-sided win against Montpellier.

Facing compatriot Ifeoma Onumonu, Echegini stole the show with a goal and assist to lead PSG to a comfortable win. 

Italy-based duo of Fisayo Dele-Bashiru and Samuel Chukwueze were unused substitutes for their respective clubs Lazio and AC Milan.

In england, it was the Bassey and Alex Iwobi show as Fulham defeated high-flying Nottingham Forest and their Nigerian stars Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.

While Awoniyi missed the show, it was Bassey who stole it after scoring the decisive winner to earn Fulham all three points in what was tagged the ‘Snapchat derby’.

Meanwhile, Wilfred Ndidi continued his brilliant return to fitness with another fantastic outing for Leicester City but could not save the Foxes from defeat against a stubborn and clinical Arsenal side inspired by super-sub Mikel Merino.
