Chris Coons, a Democratic senator from Delaware, has warned that the United States is heading toward a recession because of President Donald Trump’s “on-again, off-again” tariffs.

According to Coons, Trump’s double-digit massive tariffs are creating chaos in the markets.

Recall that Trump’s increased tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports took effect on Wednesday.

This move aims to step up a campaign to reorder global trade in favor of the United States, drawing swift retaliation from Canada and Europe.

“I think we are heading toward a recession because of Trump’s on-again, off-again, ‘let’s hit all of our allies, let’s tariff everything that comes into the United States’ approach,” Coons told CNN.

“My state of Delaware exports more to Canada than any other place in the world and imports more from Canada than any other place in the world.

“And the on-again, off-again, double-digit massive tariffs… are creating chaos in the markets.”

Trump had earlier this week revealed that his country would become “so rich” as a result of tariffs.
