Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has claimed that footballers in this generation find it hard to deal with criticism.
The Dutchman’s professional football career in the Netherlands spanned 13 years before he transitioned into coaching in 2012, managing clubs such as Man Utd, Ajax.
Ten Hag joined the Red Devils in 2022 and won the FA Cup within the space of three years at the club.
However, he was sacked in October after a series of poor performances with the team that saw them out of the top 10 in the EPL table.

Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has insisted he is not worried about losing his job despite the poor run of results.

Ten Hag speaks on social media influence on players
In his initial interview after his dismissal from Old Trafford, Ten Hag implied that players have become less resilient due to social media.
Speaking on SEG Stories, he said: “[You have to consider] the player’s well-being. How does he deal with the media?

“How does he deal with fan reactions? How does he deal with social media in this world? All of that influences a player. Sometimes positively, sometimes negatively.
“This generation, for example, they usually find it difficult to deal with criticism. Criticism really gets to them.
“The generation that I grew up in had much thicker skin. You could be much more direct with that generation. I was approached much more directly. If I was to do that with a current group of players I would demotivate them.”
Ruben Amorim, who replaced Ten Hag, has encountered similar challenges and has been unable to improve United’s position, as they remain in 14th place.
He has managed the club for 16 league matches but has only secured five wins. Under his leadership, the team has suffered eight losses and three draws.
