Time to move? Super Eagles midfielder Ndidi emerges prime transfer target for Monaco and Atletico

Super Eagles defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi could leave Leicester City with Monaco or Atletico Madrid as a possible destination.

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is reportedly on the verge of leaving Leicester City, with both Monaco and Atletico Madrid expressing strong interest in acquiring his services.

The 28-year-old defensive midfielder has not featured for the Foxes since December 8, 2024, due to a hamstring injury, during which time Leicester have struggled, suffering seven defeats in their last eight matches across all competitions.

French club Monaco have initiated discussions to secure Ndidi’s signature as they look to bolster their midfield options according to a post by BBC journalist Oluwashine Okeleji.

However, Leicester’s manager Ruud van Nistelrooy is reluctant to part ways with one of his key players, especially as the team fights to avoid relegation from the Premier League.

In addition to Monaco, Atletico have also shown interest in the Nigerian international as Diego Simeone looks to strengthen his midfield for the LaLiga race.

Reports indicate that the Spanish club has made inquiries regarding Ndidi’s availability, further intensifying speculation about his potential departure from Leicester.

Support for New Management

Despite the turmoil surrounding Leicester’s recent performances, Ndidi has publicly backed manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, who took over in late November after the dismissal of Steve Cooper.

Van Nistelrooy signed a contract until June 2027 and after a positive start, has failed to secure a win in his first seven games in charge.

Ndidi praised the manager’s approach, stating, “He’s an amazing manager with an amazing personality who is trying to put the team together.”

Ndidi remains optimistic about the team’s prospects despite what has been a challenging period at the King Power. He noted the quality within the squad and expressed confidence that they can turn their fortunes around:

“Things are not going the right way now, but we have the quality to get there with time.”

With interest from top clubs like Monaco and Atlético Madrid, it remains to be seen whether Ndidi will make a move this transfer window or continue his journey with Leicester as they strive for Premier League survival.
